This website is a repository of the intellectual property created by Bill Matthews over a long career devoted to helping privately held businesses. The copyrights for all of these materials have been assigned to The WOW Business Advisory, LLC, where Bill is the sole shareholder.
Bill is retiring. Clients of The WOW Business Advisory, LLC, have already been transitioned to another service provider. The remaining assets are now available for purchase.
These assets include proprietary, turnkey systems and tools designed for consultants who serve businesses with annual revenues between $1 million and $30 million. Also included in the sale is a restricted license that The WOW Business Advisory, LLC, sold to the world's largest sales and management training company who has achieved tremendous success by marketing the content under their own brand. WOW retains all ownership, including the right to market the intellectual property under the original WOW brand.

Background Information
After serving as an executive and officer for a "Fortune 500" company and President of a financial services organization, Bill helped establish Aileron (www.aileron.org), a not-for-profit organization that has provided guidance to thousands of privately held businesses since 1996. Made possible by the generosity of the late Clay Mathile, Aileron operates from a 100+ acre campus near Dayton, Ohio, and has been featured nationally by Fox Business News and Forbes Magazine.
During his retirement years, Bill became a prolific creator of intellectual property designed to help privately held businesses create jobs and enhance communities by focusing on these areas: implementing professional management "systems," leading clients through a simplified strategic planning process, creating Boards of Advisors, and preparing organizations for ownership transition. He continues to create fresh content, and would enjoy helping the new owner if they need input.
As mentioned above, much of Bill's professional management content has been licensed to the world's largest management and sales training company. The licensee's privately-branded content has been delivered globally to thousands of organizations.
His intellectual property has also been used in college/university Entrepreneurship programs, in the rehabilitation of inmates who would like to start their own businesses after being released from incarceration, and in the APEX 360 professional management system to improve performance and in the Orthotics and Prosthetics industry.
Bill has served on the boards of many privately held businesses and not-for-profit organizations and is a past member of the University of Dayton's Crotty Advisory Council that provides guidance to the University's Entrepreneurship initiatives.
In addition to the major programs below, his works include numerous articles, white papers, and videos, as well as three books. Five P's to a "WOW!" Business and Don't Step in the Entremanure are both published by Sound Wisdom. The third publication, Your Next Checkered Flag: The Ultimate Joy Ride, is an e-book focused on how to plan for your own legacy, and has been downloaded thousands of times.
Major Components of the Intellectual Property
The major components of the intellectual property fall into the three categories described briefly below. I. Stand-Alone Offerings for Clients
The Five P Management System is a simple, sequential, repeatable process that's delivered by a facilitator to the leadership team of an organization over a period of months. Based on the model introduced in Bill's book, Five P's to a "WOW!" Business, it includes a leader's guide, slides, exercises, a library of supporting articles, plus numerous other tools. Depicted graphically as a Racetrack, the model begins with an objective assessment of the business to get a baseline score and identify areas needing attention. The same assessment tool is used periodically to monitor progress. After each lap around the Racetrack, the company begins a new lap to continue on the path to peak performance. The content is also used for monthly, facilitator-led "Five P Leadership Circles" that consist of business owners who convene for a combination of peer-to-peer exchange and learning.
Drive My Biz to WOW is an online, on-demand, do-it-yourself version of The Five P Management System. It consists of dozens of videos and accompanying exercises, and was designed so that business owners and their leadership teams could implement The Five P System at their own pace. It has its own fully-functional website, but is not currently accessible to the public without a password. The program is also a valuable tool for facilitators who have delivered The Five P System in-person, and would like to make the videos and exercises available to clients for reference after implementation. In addition, facilitators can use the videos and exercises as a self-training tool, or incorporate them into portions of their facilitated sessions with clients.
"Strategic Business Succession: The Handoff" is designed for business owners who are preparing to transition the ownership of their businesses, and are committed to making the necessary changes that will increase enterprise value. The program is led by a qualified facilitator who works directly with the owner(s) of the business over a period of weeks or months, depending upon the situation. The facilitator is aided by a leader's guide, presentation slides, and a participant workbook with exercises. Bill's e-book, Your Next Checkered Flag: The Ultimate Joy Ride, provides facilitators with a leave-behind tool to help each owner in planning his or her own legacy.
One of the most effective ways to avoid the "entremanure" and drive top business performance is to create a Board of Advisors - it's the gift that keeps on giving! Unfortunately, there are a number of common mistakes that are made in forming a Board of Advisors. This program includes "how to" videos and tools that will help a business owner create a Board of Advisors, run effective meetings, and identify highly qualified Board Members who can provide the specific expertise to help the organization overcome weaknesses and take advantage of strategic opportunities. Content for this program was derived from two of Bill's books, Don't Step in the Entremanure, and Five P's to a "WOW!" Business. It also includes a process for matching businesses with prospective board members, but the final offering is not yet complete.
A major reason why organizations either don't like to plan, or don't follow the plan that they've created, is that strategic planning is often viewed as an intimidating, "academic" exercise that takes too long, costs too much, and isn't realistic. After completion, the fancy notebook ends up on a shelf gathering dust. "Simplified Strategic Planning" is a process, not a project. It creates laser focus by identifying the few priorities that really matter, and then assigning specific action items to specific people with specific due dates. Accountability is then established through regular review meetings where each person reports progress and asks for help if needed. This program takes the form of a guidebook with exercises so that the content can be delivered by a facilitator, or can be self-implemented by a business owner and his/her leadership team using the guidebook and exercises on their own.
II. The Current License Agreement
Included in the sale of assets is the agreement governing the license that was purchased by the world's largest management and sales training company in 2017. The licensee generates millions of dollars in revenues each year specifically from the licensed intellectual property. III. Copyright Registrations, Publishing Contracts, Websites for Future Use
The asset sale includes copies of the U.S. Copyright Registrations that provide a buyer with protection beyond the standard trademark notations already included on all of the materials. Two of Bill's books are published by Sound Wisdom, and the contracts have been assigned to The WOW Business Advisory, LLC, so those documents are included for review. There are also two fully-functional websites that are not currently available to the public, but may be of immediate help to a buyer who wants to market the online, on-demand version of the Five P System to the public, or has plans to sell licenses to "WOW Authorized Advisors."
